Where can I hunt small game in Southern California?

I'm going to college in Long Beach, CA soon and I want to hunt small game mammals. My dad just bought me a benelli vinci and a golden boy .22. Never really fired a gun but Im about to hit up the range a couple times a week and complete the HSC. But the question is where do i go to bag some small game in So Cal?? Ur answer is appreciated. I'm also thinking of getting a dog to hunt with me..like a beagle or something. DO they do well in apartments??
