Why does the Fred Phelps clan protest at funerals?

My cousin was killed in the war...he was in an armored tank and saw a baby standing on the side of the road. He got out to move the baby and then they both blew up. The baby was strapped with bombs. My cousin was just trying to help. The Westboro church protested at his funeral. Why? Is there really that many sick people in this world? Thank God there were the bikers there to dround out the sound of the protesters by reving their engines. My cousin had 2 babies and a wife at home. At the funeral the whole family had to witness this coward protesting.
